Tom Kirkman is a U.S. Air Force veteran, graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.A. and of Rutgers University, Camden, School of Law, with a J.D. He served as a trial and appellate lawyer for Legal Services in Chicago, on Cape Cod and the Islands, in private practice and as the Director of the Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit in the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. In 2009, Governor Deval Patrick appointed Mr. Kirkman to the Massachusetts District Court where he served as a judge until his retirement in 2019.
Tom has taken graduate courses at the Harvard Extension School, Cambridge, MA, the Starr King School of Ministry, Berkeley, CA, and pastoral care courses related to domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder Abuse at Andover Newton Theological School. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for Safe Havens Interfaith Partnership Against Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse, Boston, MA.
Tom is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society for Community Ministries and has been an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth, MA (UUFF), serving as the leader of a team of lay pastoral associates that provides companionship to UUFF members who are in need of spiritual and emotional support during hospitalizations, bereavement, and long-term illness.
